Labcorp disclaimer
I am retired from LabCorp and the views express in this blog are my personal views and do not reflect the views of LabCorp.
beginnings
This blog went live on Jan 6, 2021 after 3 months of work to build a site where friends could gather to discuss the topics of Citizenship, Spirituality and Biblical Literacy. It was in response to my exasperation about the current state of politics and my understanding of faithful citizenship as a mainstream practicing Lutheran Christian. After reading Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit” by Parker J. Palmer I knew there had to be a way to respond more positively and practice civil discourse so I started this journey.
first, build a website
I accepted the personal challenge of building a website to make this dream happen. I practiced by writing several draft blogs in reaction to current events. I wondered when and how to have others join me in the conversation, especially since we were all practicing social distancing. Through trial and error, I decided to go public on Epiphany, January 6, 2021, because it is the season of light and the manifestation of God’s love. I never dreamed what could happen! I took a few years off to rethink the efforts and I believe more than ever that we are all in this together and need to work out just what we want our civil life to be as people who are called to live and work for God’s justice in our communities. My goal is always to build up the community in good works and civil civic engagement. So I am back to do just that. My blog can also function as curriculum for small group meetings about these topics. I am a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas and a supply preacher in the NT-NL Synod of the ELCA.
Focus of my interests
I am limiting this blog to three themes: Citizenship, Spirituality and Biblical Literacy. Citizenship is the main theme. Spirituality will include items about prayer, spiritual formation, and spiritual direction (in the classic Christian sense) which are all part of my awakenings. Biblical literacy will discuss stories from the Bible and how they relate to life today. Call it my attempt to improve the decline in Biblical Literacy.
My personal invitation to you
Join me in this discussion! I am not a fan of social media, so I attempted to create a safe site for us. Because I acknowledge the reality of trolls, I do not have social media links on this site. You can read the privacy policy page for details. I want to share my earnest and heart felt invitation to you to join me in this discussion and in shaping the context and contents of this site. As I share my woke thoughts, consider this a discussion salon, like a group gathering at Starbucks, a place to talk freely and respectfully. Let me know what you think. And I also ask you to invite others who would appreciate this site for its content.
