Labcorp disclaimer

As a full time employee of Laboratory Corporation of America, I want to assure all readers that the views I express in this blog are my personal views and do not reflect the views of LabCorp.

beginnings

I decided to begin blogging sometime in the fall of 2020 during the tumultuous presidential campaign. It seemed a logical response to my exasperation about politics and my understanding of faithful citizenship as a mainstream practicing Christian. I have gifts in writing and orgainzation that I wanted to use for the common good. I had many awakenings during the entire year and the Adult Sunday School Class which studied Parker J. Palmer’s “Healing the Heart of Democracy:  The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit” at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas Texas, pushed me into creating a safe place for myself and others to discuss civic issues and hold the thoughts and ideas long enough for the best solutions to emerge. This is so contrary to our instantaneous culture.

first, build a website

The challenge of building a website to make this dream happen took about three months of my “free” time. I wrote many draft blogs in reaction to current events. I wondered when and how to have others join me in the conversation, especially since we were all practicing social distancing. Through trial and error, I decided to go public on Epiphany, January 6, 2021, because it is the season of light and the manifestation of God’s love. I hope I have created a place where we can agonize together about issues in our civic life as we work for God’s justice in our communities.

Focus of my interests

I am limiting this blog to three themes: Citizenship, Spirituality and Biblical Literacy. Citizenship is the main theme. Spirituality will include items about prayer, spiritual formation, and spiritual direction (in the classic Christian sense) which are all part of my awakenings. Biblical literacy will discuss stories from the Bible and how they relate to life today. Call it my attempt to improve the decline in Biblical Literacy.

My personal invitation to you

I am not a fan of social media, so I attempted to create a safe site for us. Because I acknowledge the reality of trolls, I do not have social media links on this site. You can read the privacy policy page for details. I want to share my earnest and heart felt invitation to you to join me in this discussion and in shaping the context and contents of this site. As I share my woke thoughts, consider this a discussion salon, like a group gathering at Starbucks, a place to talk freely and respectfully. Let me know what you think. And I also ask you to invite others who would appreciate this site for its content.
